Un Monstre à Paris - A Beautiful Story About a Giant Flea

It is a French animation and I absolutely love it. The English title is "A Monster in Paris".
The story really is about a giant flea, but it's not an ordinary flea, because it/he can sing (although it/he can't talk). The action takes place in 1910 Paris, where the shy projectionist, Emile, who is in love with his colleague - Maud, and the eccentric delivery driver, Raoul, unintentionally create a monster-like flea. The flea is harmless, but the Parisians are scared of it. The cruel and ambitious Maynott plans to take advantage of the situation and by killing the flea to become a hero. However, the beautiful and talented Lucille, a cabaret singer, hears the flea's singing and gives him a name - Francœur. Together with Emile and Raoul, and a monkey, called Charles, she tries to protect the flea.

The art of the animation is very beautiful. It's a pleasure to watch it. And the scenes of Paris are lovely! The other thing I like about "A Monster in Paris" is that it's very funny, but it also has a deeper meaning - it's a story about humanity. The real monster doesn't always look like a monster. And I like French. I wish I could speak French! It's really a gorgeous film.

Horror at the Beauty Shop

No, I didn't have my legs waxed. It was far more scarier than you think.

I was at the beauty shop with my younger sister. She was having her make up and hair done for her prom. We were waiting patiently for our turn. We actually knew the girl who was having her make up before my sister. I was really curious to see how did she look like because she is naturally pretty and I expected an amazing result. But hell no! When I saw her with her make up, I thought that it would have been better if she didn't put any of it on. Then I got concerned about my sister. How was she going to look like after that?!

Watching How the Evil Puppet Master Paints a Doll Face

You see, I'm very curious. So, when my sister sat for her make up, I watched how it is done carefully. The make up artist was appling different colours, using different brushes. She looked like a professionalist and I'm pretty sure that she was doing what she had to. But the more make up she put on, more awful it looked. Watching my sister's face, I couldn't supress my ironic smiles. Then she found out that something is wrong. I knew that my sister won't like it. And I was right! She hated it from the first moment she saw it.
However, my sister's face looks perfect in the pictures from that day.

When I Was Young

It wasn't that long ago when I was preparing for my prom. I did the make up by myself and I was satisfied with the result. I still think it was the right decision for me. I was very natural and I don't think I was less pretty than the others.
But I had my hair done at the hairdresser's and I didn't like it at all. My hair looked very old-fashioned and it was too expensive. It certanly wasn't what I wanted. So, I stopped going to that hairdresser. I was very disappointed.
Nowadays I am pleased with my hairdresser. She gives me useful advices and makes my hair the way I want it. And the prices are reasonable.

All Those Things We Should(n't) Do

There is nothing wrong with taking care of your appearance. I think a person should try to look as good as possible. You just should find your own style. But you shouldn't overdo anything. Try to keep it natural. You don't need to look fake.

Artsy Playlist

There are some unusual and inspiring artist that grab your heart at some point. They have such bright personalities and are sooo unique. My playlist is for those artist. I'm sure that there are more of them somewhere but I haven't heard them yet. So, for now check out my choices.

Gotye

I'm really glad that his song "Somebody That I Used to Know" has become a hit. Even in my wildest dreams I haven't expected that something so new and different can be so successful. Because the music nowadays seems so alike and there are few outstanding artists and bands. I guess the quality of the music slowly begins to get better.
However, let's get back to the song. It's really catchy and I'm singing it everywhere - "But you didn't have to cut me off ..." on the streets, at home, ... Yeah, you get the point. And the lyrics are very meaningful.
The music video itself is a work of art. And that significant part where the paint is removed from the girl's body, shows she is out of the picture ... literally.

After that song I became interested in Gotye's music and I found another lovely song.

Kimbra

She is featured in Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" and I wanted to hear some of her songs. And I really like them. There is some vintage feeling in her music videos that I really enjoy.

"Settle Down" is definitely a girly song. It's connected with every girl's dream of perfect family and love. The video shows how much effort does a woman put in a relationship, while the man seems so indifferent. The women are represented by little girls and one of them looks like a typical housewife (or the idea of a typical housewife). I think the burning vintage dolls symbolized that the old stereotype of  the women shouldn't exist. I guess, it's a bit feministic.

The next song is sooooo cute. It's about the first thrills of love and when your love isn't one-sided. When you are ready to trust someone and to let him in your life.

Another cute song! The message of the music video and the song is clear - to open up your heart for love. It's very colourful video.

Florence + the Machine

It's a really cool indie rock band and again I should say that I'm surprised that this band is so famous, because they are very different. But now I enjoy watching VH1 again.
Florence has an unique voice and style. The lyrics are amazing and the music sounds epic. There is no need to say more!

A sparkly silver moon and some balloons ... "You've Got the Love"

Musicians at work ... "What The Water Gave Me"

A science-fiction film ... "Never Let Me Go"

Coldplay

I really like some of their songs. They are very creative. However, I didn't like their new song with Rihanna - "Princess of China". Well, it is a nice song, but it just didn't get under my skin. And I think Rihanna is a good singer, but she is everywhere.
So, one of my favourite songs by Coldplay is "Fix You". The music video is simple but it suits the song.

Travis

I like Travis very much. They have really good and unique songs. And their music videos are always so strange, that it's impossible not to love them.
I want to know where is that romantic supermarket. It's so CUTEEE video!

Is there anyone who hasn't dreamt of such a fancy food fight?!

A Fine Frenzy

I found her by accident and I actually thought that A Fine Frenzy is a band. I really like "Near to You". It is the first one that I heard and my favourite so far. It is a very beautiful song! Alison (her real name) isn't as famous as the other artists on my playlist, but she is great.

(Sorry, there is no official video!)

Selah Sue

Another not so famous (at least in my country) singer. Actually, my sister found her. Selah Sue has an amazing voice. Her song - "This World", is featured in a commercial.
I like the black and white music video and I like the song.

Princes, Princesses and Gentlemen

I'm  starting a new segment called "My Drama Choices". Once a month I'm going to recommend you some TV series.
I like watching dramas a lot, especially Korean and Japanese. I prefer comedies because I need something amuzing to help me relax after a long day. I also like romance and fantasy films/dramas.

"Rooftop Prince"

I'm starting with a Korean drama, that I've recently watched. It is called "Rooftop Prince" and it's about Prince Lee Gak from the Joseon era. His wife dies mysteriously and he gets together a team to investigate - Song Man Bo (who is very smart), Woo Young Sul (who is very strong and good at fighting) and Do Chi San (who is very handsome and gossips, if this can be a special power). But somehow they are sent 300 year into the future. They end up in Park Ha's rooftop room. Park Ha is the main heroine of the series.
I don't know how, but she actually believes them that they come from Joseon and she helps them.
In nowadays Seoul, Lee Gak has more mysteries to solve. He has to find out not only how his princess died, but also how his reincarnation Yong Tae Yong died. Also, there is an unexpected mystery behind Park Ha and her older sister Hong Se Na, who is a reincarnation of Lee Gak's dead wife.

Of course, Lee Gak and Park Ha fall in love with each other, but I don't want to reveal the plot further. I'll only say that for the ending is used the so called "Deus ex machina", but I like it.

It's a very interesting drama with a lot of surprising twists. It has fresh humour and a couple of heart-warming moments. I like the idea of the eternal destined love. And if you're a K-pop fan, you can watch this drama because of Park Yoochun form JYJ.

"Once Upon a Time"

Can you imagine all your favourite fairytale characters living in a nowadays town? Well, this is the case in the American TV series "Once Upon a Time".
The story takes place in the strange town of StorybRookE. The main character - Emma Swan, is brought there by her son, who she has given up for adoption. His name is Henry and he is adopted by Regina Mills, the mayor of Storybrooke. In fact, Regina is the Evil Queen and Emma is actually the daughter of Snow White and Prince James (Charming).

All the fairytale characters have forgotten that they are from a different world because the Evil Queen casts a curse on them. Only Regina and Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin remember, who they really are.
However, Emma and Henry's teacher Mary Margaret become roommates. Mary Margaret is Snow White, so that means she is Emma's mother.
Every episode tells different story, where the action in the fairytale world and our world develops in parallel. And all the fairytales and characters are connected.

Snow White

Prince Charming (oh, yes, he is)

The Mad Hatter (so hooot)

Belle

Red Riding Hood

I really love the plot. It's very exciting, romantic and there are some funny moments. But there is one thing that I don't like at all - the special effects. For example, when the action takes place in front of the castle, it is too obvious that it's not a real castle.
However, this is just the first season. I can't wait for the next one.

  "A Gentleman's Dignity"

This drama is currently airing and I absolutely love it so far. It's a bit like the Korean male version of "Sex and the City". It follows the story of four 40-year-old men, who have been friends since they were at school. Kim Do Jin and Im Tae San are business partners. Do Jin meets the high school teacher Seo Yi Soo and he falls in love with her. But she likes Tae San, who is her roommate's boyfriend.

I actually like the personality of Do Jin. He is as sarcastic as me and his hobby is the photography. The way he plays with Yi Soo makes the things exciting. And I really love when just the two of them are together and everything around them turns into a natural landscape.
There are a lot of funny situations in this drama. I hope that it will continue being so interesting. It's very fresh.

 Enjoy watching!
